Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility

Serving as the main hospital, Chinle offers 24-hour emergency care and specialty services, from general surgery to intensive care. This 60-bed facility is a hub of advanced care, with providers specializing in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and traditional Navajo healing practices. Located near the breathtaking Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Chinle is also a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering hiking, photography, and mountain biking just minutes away. The Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility offers 264 housing units, ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms, available for healthcare providers both on campus and in nearby areas. Additionally, 19 parking spaces are designated for camping vehicles, accommodating providers who may choose more flexible housing options. Located just 1.5 hours from Gallup and 3 hours from Flagstaff, Chinle is well-positioned for accessibility and community integration.

On January 22, 2024, the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System will open expanded services at the Chinle Comprehensive Healthcare Facility, marking a new era in accessible healthcare. This facility, located in Chinle, will provide primary care to Navajo and Native veterans five days a week, answering a plea to bring healthcare closer to the Navajo veterans who currently travel hours to reach VA services in distant cities like Albuquerque, Phoenix, and Denver.

This 68,288-square-foot facility, established in 2005, replaced a much smaller health station and is a testament to modern healthcare infrastructure in a rural setting. With a nearly $40 million investment, Pinon Health Center boasts 62 staff housing units, an effluent water treatment pond, and even a helipad, enhancing recruitment and retention efforts. Today, the center provides a full range of services to approximately 11,000 Navajo patients, many of whom are traditional Navajo speakers, making cultural sensitivity, Native Ways of Knowing, and community integration essential components of care. Tsaile Health Center – Navajo Area Indian Health Service

Nestled at the base of the Lukachukai Mountain Range, Tsaile Health Center serves 9,031 registered clients with outpatient services covering primary care, women’s health, counseling, optometry, and more. This center is located near the Diné College, a public, tribal land-grant college, the first tribally controlled college in the United States, reflecting a commitment to education and growth.
