Arizona was awarded $167 million for Fiscal Year 2026 under the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), ranking as the 6th lowest total award among all 50 states. The revised RHTP budget submitted to CMS on January 30, 2026 allocates 28% ($47 million) toward rural health education and training, 23% ($38 million) toward telehealth and innovative care pilots, and 16% ($27 million) toward behavioral health, maternal health, and chronic disease grants through AHCCCS, Arizona’s Medicaid program.

Notices of Funding Opportunities May Open as Early as Late March – April 2026

Rural health agencies, including those serving Our Relatives in tribal communities, should anticipate NOFOs opening in late March or April 2026 with a 30- to 90-day submission window. Arizona’s 16 Indian Health Service hospitals and clinics and 28 tribally operated P.L. 638 facilities stand among the rural safety-net providers most affected by these funding decisions. Native practitioners, elders, and Indigenous health leaders in both urban and rural settings must actively engage in plan development now.
