These five Indian health updates from October 6 through 14, 2026 give Tribal health leaders and Native contractors practical reasons across Indian Country to review project pipelines, clinical workflows, event calendars, and public-comment deadlines.

A $1.86 Billion IHS Investment Plan

NCUIH’s October 7 report describes HHS plans for approximately $1.86 billion in IHS facilities and technology investments, including $1.4 billion for the construction backlog and $410 million for health record modernization. Amounts may change during execution. Native contractors should monitor project announcements and solicitations before treating the plan as available contract work.

PATH Goes Live at Lawton

IHS announced October 13 that PATH EHR launched September 26 at Lawton Indian Hospital and two associated health centers. Its patient portal sent more than 2,900 reminders and received refill requests for over 800 medications in its first week. For workforce leaders, the lesson is to plan training, workflow support, and transition coverage alongside technology deployment.

Request IHS Speakers Earlier

An October 6 IHS letter introduced a new leadership speaking and meeting request form. Submit requests at least 60 days ahead and no more than six months ahead. Participation is not guaranteed. Tribal Delegation Meetings retain a separate process, so event organizers should choose the appropriate channel before building an agenda.

Referred-Care Paperwork Is Open for Comment

An October 14 notice seeks reinstatement of the Purchased/Referred Care Proof of Residency information collection, using form IHS-976. Comments are due December 14, 2026. This concerns paperwork used to verify PRC residency requirements. Referral teams can review clarity, patient burden, and opportunities for electronic submission without assuming the notice changes eligibility rules.

ANA Grant Changes Remain a Proposal

HHS’s October 14 ANA proposal would streamline remaining grant regulations and align appeals with Departmental Appeals Board procedures. Comments are due November 13, 2026. It does not guarantee easier awards. As a Native-owned healthcare staffing company, Ellsworth encourages practical follow-through.
